Liqueur wines - Bonnezeaux
The Domaine des Petits Quarts was established at the end of the 19th century and is located in Faye d'Anjou, at the heart of the Coteaux du Layon. Jean-Pascal Godineau took over in 1987 and built the reputation of the estate on its moelleux and liquoreux wines, which were the mainstay of its production at that time. The domain was acquired in 2022 by five Angevin wine lovers who are passionate about liquoreux wines...
The 25 hectares of the Domaine des Petits Quarts are spread across the Bonnezeaux and Coteaux du Layon appellations and also include a range of dry whites and sparkling wines. The vineyard is located on a series of three hillsides that face south and west: “La Montagne,” “Beauregard,” and “Fesles.” To the north of these three well-defined hillsides, there is a slightly undulating plateau that sits at an average altitude of 90 meters, while the Layon River flows at an altitude of 29 meters.

The exceptional sweet wine of Domaine des Petits Quarts
Domaine des Petits Quarts offers exceptional sweet wines. Thanks to a microclimate that allows for great maturation and botrytisation of the grapes, the domain has successfully exploited the vineyard in the best possible way. Every year, about 187,000 bottles are produced by our 40 experienced and passionate producers of this type of wine. The vineyards, made up of Chenin grape varieties, offer a yield of nearly 25 hectoliters per hectare. The grapes are harvested manually with successive sorting of overripe grapes. The soils are developed with veins of quartz, as well as phthanites. The southwest exposure and exceptional thermal behavior caused by the microclimate on the shallow soils of the steep slopes promote early vegetation and allow for particularly ripe harvests.
In 2020, the Bonnezeaux appellation sweet wine received the gold medal for Loire Valley wines, proof of the high-quality work and exceptional vintages of Domaine des Petits Quarts.
The characteristics of the liquoreux wine from Domaine des Petits Quarts
With a deep golden yellow color and beautiful copper reflections, this exceptional wine from Domaine des Petits Quarts gives off powerful aromas of acacia, verbena, caramel, as well as orange peel, candied and exotic fruits. On the palate, it is a powerful wine. It is rich, round, ample, and balanced with a hint of liveliness when it is mature. The liquoreux wine from Domaine des Petits Quarts should be stored at a temperature of 8°C and kept for at least 10 years to be consumed in the best possible conditions. The best vintages can be kept for an indefinite period of time. It pairs perfectly with aperitifs or dishes made with foie gras, blue-veined cheeses or fruity desserts with pear and almond flavors in particular. The liquoreux wine offered by Domaine des Petits Quarts is a true blend of flavors to savor, always in moderation.
